Anyone know of a way to have consitent quote marks in their writings using different keyboards (iOS vs. MS).
I use my Ipad Pro (iOS keyboard) to write when I travel. This seems to be the best way to save files (when no access to internet) and most portable.
However, when I am home or at the office... I use a typical MS Windows-type keyboard.
The problem is that the quote marks are not consitent between keyboards. The iOS uses straight quotes and MS keyboard uses curly quote marks... and, the problem is compounded when your include contractions.
This inconsitency becomes problematic when I use different online grammar checks. I use prowriter aide to make the quotes consitent (i.e., find and replace) plus use it find the inconstitencies as well. Unfortunately, once I start writing using different keyboard on the same writing, I get another mixed match quote marks and start the "find and replace" process over. Worse yet, some grammar check software simply doesn't work with straight quotes or gives strange results.
Anyone have a work flow (or solution) with regard to double and single quote symbols (straight, currly left/right) usage with different grammar check software and different keyboards? Perhaps I can set my keyboard characters to match between the different keyboards and operation systems?
Are you using the same software in both situations? MS Word on both, say? I'm wondering if this is less an issue of different keyboards, more about different software.
Ah! I see.
I think I might have the answer for you. You might try changing the keyboard settings.
On your mac, go into the Apple menu, Preferences, and then the keyboard menu. Selec the "text" tab. You should see a menu for single and double quotes, and you should be able to specify which quotes you want used. In this case, Smart Quotes. And this should apply to everything you're using on that computer.
