I keep arguing with myself over whether or not to edit this word out. Is it redundant to say that someone presses his two hands over his mouth? Is just saying 'hands' enough? I mean, how many hands could a person actually have, doesn't using 'hands' plural imply that there are two hands? But when I take 'two' out, it changes the rhythm of the sentence and I keep going back and forth, two hands, just hands, two hands, just hands, two hands, just hands.
Thoughts?
Just "hands." Even if this were science fiction and some characters had eight hands, if the particular character is human/humanoid "hands" tells us what we need to know.
agreed
If you feel like it needs an adjective you could always describe what kind of hands. (Strong, aged, softe etc.)
Though, hands is just fine as it is.
Unless the owner of the hands has more than two, and the others are doing something important. Sci fi like Renee said, or horror for a three handed clown.
