What has changed in your life since you joined this site?

What are you reading and how is it?

What other music, shows, movies, or various media are you into?  How is it?

Are you doing NaNO?

What are you writing?

How is that going?

Why aren't you getting more done with it (in general, not this very second)?

Is that just an excuse?

Really?

How are things in the rest of your life?

Anything you think we should know?

What has changed in your life since you joined this site?

When I first joined up I was studying at college and working in a supermarket and writing something that would hopefully become my first published work. I'm now a countryside ranger, I got my novel finished and published and I've moved house twice.

What are you reading and how is it?

Judas Unchained by Peter F Hamilton, it's good, but then I like all his stuff and I think I've become a bit of a fanboy. Just started reading Carrier by Timothy Johnson as well. Only about 20 pages in but I like it so far (okay so I had a sneak preview from the author himself a year ago, because he's an LR member, and it's much improved on what I read before.)

What other music, shows, movies, or various media are you into?  How is it?

I finished Breaking Bad recently and I just got Netflix and started watched The Bates Motel. I watched Silent Hill Revellation yesterday as well which isn't a great film but I'm in the mood for horror again for some reason. I've got Wrong Turn on my to-watch list next. And I started playing the Crash Bandicoot games again after digging my Xbox-360 out.

Are you doing NaNO?

Yes.

What are you writing?

Welcome to Sentago. It's about a shape shifting alien who's favourite form is being a human, so he's decided to change permanently, partly to help himself hide from the authorities because he's also highly wanted for having killed his parents in self defence. To get the money to fund the research that's going to help him change, he's pulling a number of money scams, one of which involves a premiscuous young man with a dodgy past of his own.

How is that going?

It's fun; it's a really silly story that has its serious moments; it's also my first dabbling in erotica for a while and god knows what my family will say if they ever read it! The gore factor isn't as high as I was expecting yet, but there's more action than in my most recent efforts.

Why aren't you getting more done with it (in general, not this very second)?

I've done 10k on it this weekend, that's enough. I'm already way ahead and if I keep this up I'll be done with 9 days to spare.

Is that just an excuse?

Yes and it's a good one.

Really?

Yes.

How are things in the rest of your life?

Pretty cool actually. I haven't taken much exercise lately but tonight I'll go running to blow the cobwebs out.

Anything you think we should know?

Lately I've had a little of that 'What do I actually contribute to the world by sitting at my desk and writing this dreck?' feeling that a lot of writers get. But hey, what else is there that's any better?

September again? Time flies… it seems like only a couple of months ago since the last time it was September…

What has changed in your life since you joined this site? Not a lot, I was pretty settled when I joined up. A few people are sadly no longer with us; Mum got the all clear from cancer, I got a promotion. I also now read slush for Revolt Daily.

What are you reading and how is it? The Long Mars by Pratchett and Baxter. The series is oddly devoid of tension, but it’s an easy read.

What other music, shows, movies, or various media are you into?  How is it? Got a few acoustic gigs coming up. I’m thinking of promoting a gig near my home town for a talented singer/songwriter called Steve Pledger.

Are you doing NaNO? Nope. There is no way I would be able to balance that commitment along with real life stuff.

What are you writing? The same story I’ve been writing for months – Gumshoe. It’s ballooned from a short story to a novella.

How is that going? Time has not been my friend. I’m maybe getting an hour a week to write. So, not great, though I am getting near the end.

Why aren't you getting more done with it (in general, not this very second)? Tight deadlines at work, supporting my wife as she’s doing a course, dealing with kids.

Is that just an excuse? No.

Really? I find your lack of faith disturbing.

How are things in the rest of your life? Busy.

Anything you think we should know? It looks as though I’ll be appearing on Canadian TV in the near future. If there are any Canadians reading, do check out ‘Blimey, an Englishman in Atlantic Canada’. It’s on Bell Aliant Community One, and available via the wonder of the internet to those outside Canada. It’s written by and starring an old friend of mine, James Mullinger, who is an English stand up now living in Canada. He’s been back over this side of the Atlantic for the last few weeks, and I caught up with him for some filming after his hometown gig, to do some filming.

Haha, sorry :)

Anyway...

What has changed in your life since you joined this site?

I've been published, taken classes with some of my favourite authors, met a ton of cool people I respect very much, discovered a whole load of new authors, and had a lot of fun doing it :)

What are you reading and how is it?

I'm about to start slaughter house five.

What other music, shows, movies, or various media are you into?  How is it?

I'm loving the atmospheric melancholy beauty of Lana del Rey. Enjoying AHS freak show, and some cool indie films.

Are you doing NaNO?

No. At the moment that's too many words.

What are you writing?

Still that novella. Although actually I'm just tweaking a lot of short stories at the moment

How is that going?

The tweaking is going okay, I hope. The novella I need to figure out a bit more.

Why aren't you getting more done with it (in general, not this very second)?

I'm doing okay actually, all things considered.

Is that just an excuse?

Nup.

Really?

Yup.

How are things in the rest of your life?

Shattering.

Anything you think we should know?

There are only six weekends until Xmas.

• What has changed in your life since you joined this site? A better question is what hasn’t changed?
• What are you reading and how is it? The Paying Guest—it’s going great, but I had to pause to study for a midterm. It sucks not being able to read for pleasure.
• What other music, shows, movies, or various media are you into?  How is it? None—again I have the whole study thing going on right now. But my DVR is set for Walking Dead and American Horror Story and I can’t wait to dive in for a binge session in early December.
• Are you doing NaNO? Nope. I’ve never done it, but it seems super fun. Go NaNoers!  (Boo—that reminded me of Mork and Mindy and then Robin Williams. Sad loss.)
• What are you writing? I got some amazing feedback on Yes, Admin and am busting my ass to get the rewrites done this month.
• How is that going? Good and bad. I’m a little bipolar when it comes to my writing. One second I think it’s wonderful, and the next I don’t think it is good enough to wipe my ass with.
• Why aren't you getting more done with it (in general, not this very second)? Seriously, I’m given her all she’s got Captain! (I hope you said that with an accent).
• Is that just an excuse? Nope. I’m in college, I work full time. I’m editing an entire 90k MS with major rewrites in one month, oh and I have a family that likes me around. Being a mom apparently means I’m the only one who can cook and find things in the house.
• Really? This again? I thought we covered this already. Weren’t you listening? God. Just like a man.
• How are things in the rest of your life? Great. I’m too busy to be in my head about everything that’s going on so that’s a great side effect.
• Anything you think we should know? I have two requests from major agents for my novel (one whole, one 50 pgs.), which is why I’m rushing with the edits. Thankfully I’m too busy to be nervous.

What has changed in your life since you joined this site? I can't ever keep up. I have a daughter now and a handful of enemies. One of those things keeps me busy and makes me laugh, the other thing only makes me laugh.

What are you reading and how is it? Revolution by Russell Brand. It's pretty interesting but he digresses a lot and it seems like it's only to show off his writing skill.

What other music, shows, movies, or various media are you into?  How is it? Watching some old giallo stuff like Suspiria and The Beyond. They're stylish and enjoyable. Also, Headhunters is a really cool movie.

Are you doing NaNO? Meh. I thought about it but It'll only take me a month to write a novel when I actually sit down and do it so what's the point?

What are you writing? My insanity.

How is that going? Swimmingly?

Why aren't you getting more done with it (in general, not this very second)? I get in this mindset that since I know I can do it and do it well, I can take things casually.

Is that just an excuse? Yes, it's stupid and I need to get out of that mentality, otherwise I'll never get anything written.

Really? I have a stomach ache, I really need to stop doing this to myself.

How are things in the rest of your life? I just got a giant bonus at work so I've been busy divvying that out where necessary.

Anything you think we should know? I dunno. Even though I hate giving writing advice, here goes. Develop the confidence to trust yourself to completely let go and write down whatever comes out and believe that it won't be full of crap or full of typos. Just give into yourself, your basest urges, your killer instincts. Nobody has to read it, detach yourself from that notion. Then when you're finished, find out if it's worth showing to anyone. Don't think about it while you're writing. And stop trying to be fucking famous, you're just going to end up on the Z-list.

What has changed in your life since you joined this site?

New job, I write more, some new friends, and I think a new deadlift PR?

What are you reading and how is it?

Prodigy- second in the "Legend" e-book series. A real improvement on the last, which was okay, but this is well done.

What other music, shows, movies, or various media are you into?  How is it?

Nothing, really. Trifonic has this great song if you're writing anything where people are sneaking around...

Are you doing NaNO?

The hell is that?

What are you writing?

Same as last time, making progress! So... close...

How is that going?

I just told you!

Why aren't you getting more done with it (in general, not this very second)?

The fire takes a lot more stoking

Is that just an excuse?

I wish

Really?

Oh yeah

How are things in the rest of your life?

Whatever

Anything you think we should know?

An MIT economist who helped write the ACA was apparently caught on camera saying, about the bill, that "the lack of transparency is a huge political advantage."

What has changed in your life since you joined this site?

The idea of actually finish any writing seemed worlds away, now I've still got nothing published but I am finishing things and have started on a novel, I've also disovered some great books and writers on this site

What are you reading and how is it?

James Ellroy's new one, slow going as I'm a bit busy on other stuff but it's great.

What other music, shows, movies, or various media are you into?  How is it?

Enjoyed nightcawler recently and intersteller despite the plot holes, walking dead is back on. Looking forward to watching the drop. Saw the war on drugs in camden the other day and currently listening to a bit of steve gunn.

Are you doing NaNO?

Nope, I'm not that good.

What are you writing?

Still expanding the short story blow one down into a novel, first draft is currently 18 chapters in.

How is that going?

Slowly, didn't do that much long term planning so now I'm past the ten or so chapters I planned out I'm pretty much making it up as I go along.

Why aren't you getting more done with it (in general, not this very second)?

I'm at work

Is that just an excuse?

Pretty much

Really?

Yeah

How are things in the rest of your life?

I'v got a cold this week. Booooo

Anything you think we should know?

Reading up on extradimenisonal physics after watching intersteller is a bit of a head shag.

Funny Dwayne! I'm horrible with accents, so that's probably how I sound anyway being a southern girl.

Thanks Adam! You probably wouldn't recognize it anymore because it's gone through major transformations since the contest, but I'd love for you to read it when its done.

Thanks Voodoo_em!
