First Look at Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D' TV Series

Yesterday, ABC ran a thirty second teaser trailer for its upcoming show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, a spinoff series from last summer's mega-juggernaut cash manufacturer The Avengers. SlashFilm has the trailer available for your viewing pleasure here; they also report that the show was officially picked up by the network for its first season.
The clip shows Agent Phil Coulson, a character appearing in all the Marvel franchise movies leading up to and including The Avengers, quipping about cars and tech, interspersed with other action-packed footage from the pilot, which was written and directed by Joss Whedon.
Played by Clark Gregg, Coulson's inclusion in this series may induce some head-scratching, since he (SPOILER!) was killed by Loki in The Avengers, inspiring the quarreling team to put their differences aside and FIGHT! Unless this is a prequel series (which is totally possible) Whedon has some 'splaining to do. Of course, the filmmaker is no stranger to bringing characters back from the dead: Buffy the Vampire Slayer (SPOILER!) died something like seventy times in the course of her series. I may be off on that number.
The trailer looks fun, and I'm interested to see this extension of the Avengers storyline. What does everyone think?

The series takes place after the Avengers, and it has been confirmed that Coulson lived. Given the source material, there are a number of reasons that everyone's favorite SHIELD Agent either survived, or died and is still around.
So many white people.
Oh man, I almost choked!
But yes, as James mentioned, there are a lot of reasons Coulson could be alive. The favorite theory is that his death was faked in The Avengers... as the bloody trading cards were from his locker, not his body and he said to Fury that the team needed a "push"...
I'm ambivalent about the series. I want to love it, but I worry about ABC's ability to meet my expectations for something like this.
