Learn How You—Yes, YOU—Can Spend 12 Weeks Workshopping With Chuck Palahniuk And Lidia Yuknavitch

Chuck Palahniuk, Lidia Yuknavitch, Portland, Workshops

Do you want to take a writing workshop with Chuck Palahniuk and Lidia Yuknavitch?

That was a silly way to open this. Of course you do.

The Lie Factory will accept twenty people. Each one of those lucky twenty will get feedback on a ten-page fiction manuscript (that’s 12 pt. font, typed, double-spaced, normal human margins—no cheating) over the course of twelve weeks.

This is happening in Portland. I can't tell you where. I don't even know. You find out if you get accepted. Sessions will be held Monday nights, from 6 to 9:30 p.m., starting Jan. 8 and running through March 26 (or whenever it ends, see below).

The entire 12-week run will cost you a cool $300. Chuck will donate his fee to The Pixie Project, and a portion of Lidia's will go to p:ear. The rest goes toward keeping the lights and heat on.

To Apply

Send your best 500 words to andy@corporealwriting.com with “Chuck and Lidia” in the subject line. I say again, 500 words. Your ability to follow directions here counts. The application period runs from Dec. 10 through 16 (so, uh, get movin'), and participants will be notified by Christmas.

Other items of note:

  • Chuck and Lidia sometimes have to travel related to their writing lives. So the workshops may extend beyond 12 actual weeks.
  • This workshop will be filled with feedback for individual writers, as well as micro-lectures and discussion of craft.

Look, I'm going to level with you: this is nuts. I live in New York and it would be completely infeasible for me to do this, and yet I am still wondering if I could manage a temporary 12-week move to Portland.

And as the class director at LitReactor, I've seen Chuck and Lidia in workshop settings—the two of them are fantastic instructors, with this incredible ability to dig deep into writing craft, in such a way that it's like you're seeing it for the first time.

Seriously. Apply. And do it quick—time is running out...
