UPDATE x 2 - Mark Your Calendar: The First LitReactor Meetup Is July 5th In NYC

Do you want to hang out in a dark room with a bunch of strangers from the internet? Then mark your calendars and dig out your drinkin' hats--we're hosting the first official LitReactor meetup!
WHERE: Lilly O'Brien's, 67 Murray Street, Manhattan, NY
WHEN: July 5, 6:30 p.m.
Lilly O'Brien's is a great little pub in Tribeca, where we'll have full run of the bar in the basement. Some of the site's founders, columnists and instructors will be on hand--and also maybe a surprise guest or two. More on that soon.
There's plenty of public transit access: it's right around the corner from the 1, 2, 3, A, C, E and PATH trains, and within walking distance of the R, 4, 5, 6, J and Z lines. Plus a bunch of buses and ferries. And the largest airport system in the United States. Really, you have no excuse to not be there.
If you think you might be coming, sound off in the comments. At some point I'd like to give the bar a headcount, even if it's a very rough guess. And if you're planning on coming in from outside New York and you have any questions or need guidance, ask away.
UPDATE (6/20/12): We're getting a little closer, so we wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that LitReactor Overlords Dennis Widmyer, Kirk Clawes and Mark Vanderpool are flying in for this shindig. Also on the guest list: Senior Editor Joshua Chaplinsky, and instructor/columnist Jon Gingerich. You know what that means? This is going to be a boring party. Please come and save me from these people.
Kidding. Everyone is really cool and this will be fun. So come to this thing. As before, if you think you're going to swing by, raise your hand up high, but down in the comments so we can see it.
UPDATE (6/28/12): So, also coming? John Jarzemsky! And he's coming from Texas. Y'all have no excuse.
Also, nametags? Do you think we should do them? Or are they lame? I don't really care that much, because I don't have to wear one. My username is my real name!
Also, are you excited yet? One week to go!

Count me in.
Geoff
I will be there, with my sunglasses and pet chicken.
Yup. See yous then.
Should we make nametags? This'll be easy for me. My user name is my real name. I feel bad for the people who have to be like 'hey, you might know me as supersexxxgod1484 but my real name is Steve'.
I'm in. Obviously.
I'm in. If you're making nametags make mine supersexxxgod1484
or S.D. Willis as that's my stage name...
or Clint.XyZy
or actually, nevermind... I'll bring a sandwhich board and everyone can just write down what they want to call me for the evening.
Count me in. Stock up on the whiskey.
count me in can't wait to meet everyone!
Damnit. I think I'm not in town that week.
I might even take the train in AND GIVE UP A NIGHT OF MY VACATION for this. Will the guys be taking their shirts off? That would be an incentive.

Ed, if you show up and I drink enough, maybe.
Why a Thursday? Would have totally road-tripped this on a weekend... Also the Youtube gathering I believe is in Central Park on the Sunday, so out of towners could get wasted with writers on Saturday and then be hungover with vloggers on Sunday... food for thought...
This sounds awesome, and it's right around the corner from where I work. I'll have to stop by!
Fuck all of you. I should be there, too.
Ah, have fun anyway, champs.
So, if this goes well will there be a West Coast version?
Count me in... :)
Hey, I'll be there.
I will be there with bloody bells on, all the way from Texas. Let me know if anybody wants a gun or an armadillo (our two main exports).
So jealous. Wish we could do in one Seattle. :)
Damn. I live in NY, but I'm going to be flying to Seattle on the 5th.
Nametags might be good, because no one knows what I look like.
That's what you get for hiding behind your chickens.
A West Coast version? Like the West Coast Avengers? Then we'd have to do a Great Lake Avengers, too. Man, this is getting complicated.
Dibs on being Mr. Immortal.
There definitely needs to be a West Coast Version. I am willing to drive to LA or NorCal almost any time (I am close to LA and have family close to NorCal)...the rest of this stuff takes cash. I'm low on that.
So when is the Texas one?
Yes! I've been looking for a good (non-fee-based) NYC group of writers! I'm new to LitReactor, but have been in various workshops for years...
Count me in too! I haven't been writing in the past, ohhh 18 months but it's time for me to give one vigorous puppy a real in -person hug. Also, it is my personal belief that name tags are a necessary lameness. I'd go with screen name and name you'd like to be called in person, cause if I had thought of fireysexgoddessxxx, I'd totally want to be called that in "real life."
I will be there, a little after 7pm, most likely, but I'll be there. Be nice to actually meet fellow writers for a change.
I hope they serve Scotch.
@Howie: Count me in on the Great Lakes Avengers. I want to be a founding member and have a write up in the upcoming Litreactor Universe. (yeah, I was a huge comic book nerd when I was younger. I have a feeling I'm not alone in that).
amazing time in NYC. Much of it thanks to the hospitality of LitReactor core team members who are locals or native-expatriates from this place. Dennis's old wrecking crew--some LR staffers or affiliates and some not--are a great bunch of guys and gals. Smart, funny, engaging people. Courteous and considerate, but nothing phony or affected. Strongly opinionated, but without rancor. Conversationalists. And people who know how to hang out and have a great time
Some of it never happened, of course. Unless the pictures get out. But in that case, those pictures, they were probably faked.
Also, I had a blast running around in tourist mode w/ Kirk for much of the day. Got to explore the Museum of Modern Art with a knowledgable companion who was also experiencing MOMA for the very first time. A winning combination of things to make this trip memorable.
And we still have the official shindig for Thursday night! Our own little conference in the basement of a bar that's all for us! A chance to make my last night in the city the best one yet: more time with the core team, plus several more great people to meet and spend time with. Some of our instructors who are locals. Some members, of course, from near and far. Even the bold and interpid who are very new membes to the community. See you very soon. Cheers.
Oh, the pictures. The pictures indeed...
