The Editor Will See You Now: Harper Voyager To Accept Unagented Manuscripts
Are you sitting on a finished sci-fi or fantasy masterpiece just waiting for the right publisher? Struggling to find an agent? Fear not, undiscovered genius! HarperCollins has announced that during the first two weeks of October, its sci-fi and fantasy imprint, Harper Voyager, will accept your unagented manuscript.
The publisher hopes to find "new authors with fresh voices, strong storytelling abilities, original ideas and compelling storylines." They'll take any kind of adult or YA speculative fiction but would be particularly thrilled to receive epic fantasy, science fiction, urban fantasy, horror, dystopia, and supernatural type stuff. The last time they did this was over a decade ago, so don't go thinking you'll just wait until next time around because you'll be in for a long wait.
The selected manuscripts will likely be published in eBook form only, though there is a "possibility" of print publication. The chosen few will be edited and receive marketing and sales support in English markets around the world. Full submission guidelines are already posted, but here's the gist: It's got to be finished, more than 70,000 words (ideally 80,000 to 120,000), and not under consideration by another publisher. Don't call them, they'll call you. If you don't hear from them within three months, move along with your life and find another route to publication.
You've got a couple of weeks to polish your work and make it irresistible to the editors. Anybody thinking of submitting something?
