SPOILER: Today, Archie Dies

Archie dies

The fact that Archie dies has been public knowledge for months now. But I’m going to have to do this: [SPOILER ALERT] for the rest of this article.

Life with Archie is a comic book series that explores Archie in the future, after college, as an adult. Each issue is split into two storylines: what Archie’s life would have been like with Betty, and what it would have been like had he married Veronica. But in this final issue, Life with Archie No. 36, he can’t avoid his fate in either timeline. He takes a bullet and we see an image we never thought we'd see, Archie bleeding out on the floor.

When an attempt is made on Kevin Keller’s life, Archie does what Archie would do in this situation; he sacrifices himself for his best friend.

Archie Comics CEO/Publisher Jon Goldwater told CNN,

It’s really not sad, it’s inspirational. Because Archie does what you would want him to do. He takes the bullet for his friend and he would do that for anybody.

The following issue will show how his friends are coping with his death a year later. Some of you may be wondering why Archie Comics would kill off their titular character, but don’t worry, the events in this flash-forward series will not affect the present day characters.

Goldwater said in a news release,

Archie died as he lived — a hero, representing the best in all of us.

Archie was one of my favorite comics when I was a kid because it was light hearted. It's depressing to see that image of him dying. I've not read any of the modern comics based on Archie, and knowing that this is where it leads.... Yeah, I think I'll stick to the old ones that made me laugh. I'm not angry about this, but I know there are people who are pissed off about it.

Who is Kevin Keller? I thought Archie's best friend is Jughead.

He was added in 2010 so they could have an openly gay character.

Ohhh, ok. I was wondering why the name didn't sound familiar. I stopped reading them in high school, so around 2001/2002.
